Out with the old, in with the new

I was riding the train this morning when I saw the following picture in the morning paper. I couldn't believe a lady was proudly holding up her trusty old vibrator for the newspaper to photograph. And then I realized it was free vibrator exchange day!

Doesn't this truck (red triangle with the 'device' in the middle) visit your neighbourhood? Of course it does. If you're in the marketing area for Mail&Female Sex Accessories that is. This Dutch company is offering an exchange. Bring in your old, tired, broken toys and get a new one free of charge. So regardless of whether it just fails to turn on, or fails to still turn you on, there's hope yet for a girl's best friend.

Out with the old; in and out with the new. (I guess they're making their money off the batteries?)

d'oh! had i realized you were going to "share" such a thoughtful and/or insightful post, i might have had YOU write today's Sex, Ed? for the Snark! as it is, i'm going back "in" to link to this fine effort of yours.

Vibrator Exchange? is it just me, or is that kind of... icky. or desperate. or, at the very least, embarrassing? ; ) xox

Neva, I would think such things would only be embarrassing if there were, say, dozens of reports with cameras and such. And if for some reason you didn't use a brown paper bag.

The exchange was "old for new" so it's not like they were pairing people up to trade.

Too, too, too funny!

I don't have one. Do you think it's a good idea to buy a used one?

Ms. Pez, it is (by Dutch standards) something no woman should be without. That said, trading, sharing or buying used are not recommended.

For the record, the article says that the old ones will be recycled into some type of art work.

The art community is getting excited just thinking about it!

"Excited" is the important word in that sentence, right?

Charline said...

Yes indeed Mo! It is hoped that the resulting pieces will send tremors throughout the art world!

Obviously that truck isn't in one of several states of the U.S., where it is actually illegal to sell a vibrator... read this.

That's hilarious, leave it to the Dutch to think up something like this. I tried clicking on the picture to enlarge it so I could read it, but it didn't work, too bad.

LOl...a country after my own taste, free drugs and vibrators. If the Hippie movement will ever return, I think Holland should be the location :)

*imagines herself with flowers in her hair*

I don't know that I'd ever have one to trade in. Sex toys are like socks--I usually end up losing mine in hotel rooms, the gym, the bus station, who knows where.

Ewww.

That woman looks like she's got a molotov cocktail.

TS, I know, such things are what Europeans used to laugh at the U.S. about. Before that became dangerous.

Theresa, I've got to upgrade MSIE on my work laptop... I have the pic in large (readable) resolution and will fix this... right after I'm back from Asia.

Minka, I didn't know you liked free drugs and dildos! Now I feel like my tour was completely inadequate.

I could try PhotoShop but I think you should just wear a few flowers. Lovely.

Deb! ROTFL! Uhm, I understand how you can loose a sock at the gym... but WHAT?!?! Crazy hedonist.

Diesel, if you mean she's proudly carrying a weapon to assert her independence, yes. I think it runs on batteries rather than gasoline though.

You know, if I ever get my 15 minutes of fame, I definitely want to be in the newspaper with a used vibrator in my hands ... NOT!

Quilly, wouldn't that be a bad career move? In Holland the lady in the paper could be a grade-school teacher and no one would care. In Alabama, admitting to selling such a device can get you 5 years in jail!
