Quotes

I discovered a website today called quotationspage.com. Here's a few selections of their's that I liked:

Happiness

Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. Abraham Lincoln (1809 - 1865)

Happiness is nothing more than good health and a bad memory. Albert Schweitzer (1875 - 1965)

The pursuit of happiness is a most ridiculous phrase; if you pursue happiness you'll never find it. C. P. Snow (1905 - 1980)

Happiness is having a large, loving, caring, close-knit family in another city. George Burns (1896 - 1996)

Drinking

Electricity is actually made up of extremely tiny particles called electrons, that you cannot see with the naked eye unless you have been drinking. Dave Barry

Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut. Ernest Hemingway (1899 - 1961)

Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water. W. C. Fields (1880 - 1946)

Sex

I can remember when the air was clean and sex was dirty. George Burns (1896 - 1996)

In America sex is an obsession, in other parts of the world it is a fact. Marlene Dietrich (1901 - 1992)

Life is a sexually transmitted disease. R. D. Laing

Seduction isn’t making someone do what they don’t want to do. Seduction is enticing someone into doing what they secretly want to do already. Waiter Rant

Hi Morgan.....

"Happiness"...I think Honest Abe told it like it is.

Schweitzer and Snow are just playing with words.

Geo. Burns is half right, even though it sounds like a conundrum. Having lived both near and far from family, I personally am much happier with my loved ones close-by. To each his own.

"Drinking"...Very rarely is anything serious written about drinking. People more often joke about drink and drinkers. Take note that it helped both Hemingway and Fields step into eternity earlier than the average person. I don't know Dave Barry. Maybe he faired better.

"Sex"...Burns, Dietrich and Laing are having fun with words, but Rant's (whoever he may be) quote is troublesome to me. It sounds like, no matter what his partner says, he will assume that he/she "secretly" is saying yes. That's just wrong. But, since he is simply stating a definition and that's not necessarily his way of conducting his life, I suppose I don't HAVE TO knock him down and stomp on him if we should ever meet.........Here endeth the lesson...........Mom

I loved the Albert Schweitzer one on happiness and the Marlene Dietrich one on sex. Nice quotes!

Hi Mom, thanks for the rant. :-) I pictured you a la Rick Mercer. A shame you misunderstood my favourite quote though.

Hi Minka! Are they treating you well in America? (They had better be!)
